OUR HISTORY – A MICROCOSM OF TASMANIA’S MULTIPLE-USE FORESTS

Hollybank’s story began in 1854 when William Tyson and William Dawson Grubb purchased the dense forest to provide ‘fine milling timber’ to northern Tasmania’s first power-driven mill near the Pipers River. In 1933, a private company converted it into a European tree plantation to obtain wood for the manufacture of tennis racquets and cricket bats. But the venture was abandoned before any timber could be harvested.

By the 1990s, Forestry Tasmania took over Hollybank for public recreation, creating an arboretum of both native and exotic forests with walking tracks, picnic facilities and an information centre. And in 2008, Hollybank Treetops Adventure opened as Australia’s first high-wire adventure tour, an exciting Government initiative to showcase Tasmanian forests and boost tourism.

Today, Trees Adventure owns and operates Hollybank Wilderness Adventures, Australia’s only forest adventure destination housing four international standard outdoor activities under one canopy. Alongside the wonderful picnic sites perfect for family occasions; special walking paths ‘The Avenue’ and ‘Walk of Change’; native forests and plantations; and the McNeil buildings.

Hollybank’s history, built environment and usage reflect our values in creating an outstanding visitor experience encompassing the entire forest reserve. Our respect for the environment is integral to who we are – caring and protecting the people, trees and tracks in this land.

AN AWARD WINNING ADVENTURE TOURISM DESTINATION

Hollybank Wilderness Adventures is Tasmania’s only outdoor hub to house multi-adventures in one location, taking out Tasmania Tourism’s major tourist attraction award. And home to one of seven Trees Adventure tree ropes adventure parks around Australia. Each day, hundreds of visitors from Launceston and around the world come to immerse themselves in the excitement and tranquillity of this beautiful forest reserve. Taking the opportunity to spend a day experiencing some diverse adventures.

Trees Adventure was born when Marc Flaster, a 30-year veteran entrepreneur from France met Nic Dansin, an avid rock climber and former acrobat performer with experience managing tree rope parks. The duo had seen the success of tree ropes adventure parks in Europe and wanted to bring the enthralling experience to Australia. Their goal was simple and remains today – to create fun and challenging treetop adventures across the country.

WORLD CLASS TECHNOLOGY

Our adventure systems are built in compliance with Australian engineering standards that include construction methods and materials. We also use world-class interlocking safety mechanisms, ensuring that participants won’t be able to accidentally remove themselves from the course.

SAFETY CHECKS

Each day, inspections are conducted by trained guides who fly on all lines and verify the safety of the cables and carabiners for each adventure. A more vigorous inspection by the equipment and construction manager takes place quarterly, while and independent arborist and structural engineer provide an annual report on tree health and park safety.
